Goh Swee Poh Junior was a student here at FiT Malaysia taking the ACE PT July 2013 Full Time course. It started out with just going to the gym with his best friend after finishing his A-Levels. Not long after that, Junior and his friend started to develop passion and interest to know more about fitness. His friend found out about FiT Malaysia and the ACE PT course that we offered. Then, both of them signed up for the course together. Here is Junior’s journey in becoming an ACE Certified Personal Trainer.

Congratulations on passing your ACE exam. How do you feel after that?

Junior: Oh, thank you. Quite nervous waiting for the results to come out because it took around 4 weeks for ACE to release it. But really excited after knowing that I passed the exam.

So, how was the exam like? Is it hard? What were you expecting when you were taking the exam?

Junior: It’s actually 50:50. In a way, I don’t expect it to be that hard. And maybe because I have already prepared myself well.

It’s really good that you are well prepared. Is that the reason why ACE exam easier for you?

Junior: Easy because during the FiT Test 1 and 2 and also FiT Comprehensive Test we are already exposed to what type of questions that will be asked in the exam. Some of the questions in the exam are similar to the one we did during the course so I already knew the answers the moment I look at them. The FiT Facilitator Facebook page also helped me a lot. The admin always post questions and discuss on Facebook. And some of the questions did come out in the exam. *laughs*

Now that you are an ACE Certified Trainer what are you plans after this?

Junior: I want to upgrade myself first with a lot of experience and knowledge like joining workshops and other courses.

What workshops or courses would you like to go into then?

Junior: I’m keen on joining any Group Fitness Instructor course like the ACE- Group Fitness Instructor (GFI) course.

That’s interesting because here in FiT Malaysia we do offer a few courses on Group Exercise as well such as Group Fitness Innovative Teaching (GFiT) course and soon we will be launching a new course also called Fitness FX.

Are you currently training anyone right now?

Junior: Not really but I am training my mother right now. Trying to educate her on fitness as it can benefit her and improve her health and activity of daily living. And it’s good because now she is building core endurance.

I like how you approach your family first in fitness training. It’s good to start training yourself and people close to you first.

My next question is does ACE Certification give you more values?

Junior: In a way, yes, because when people around me know that I am an ACE Certified Personal Trainer they look up to me as they know that I am more credible in what I do now.

Final question of the day, do you have anything to say to the people out there who wants to start a career in the fitness industry but do not know what to do and where to start? You have been there and now look at you now, an ACE Certified Trainer! Any good piece of advice for them?

Junior: I think my advice is they would need to be interested in training people and yes of course fitness too. Other than that, they need to have the passion in learning. Because ACE course can be easy and it can be hard depends on your thirst to study. But I would recommend my friends or anyone to start one by one. Which is taking the FiT’s Group Instructor course first to get the idea and foundation in fitness training then only go for the ACE PT Course.

That’s a really good advice Junior. Anything other last words?

Junior: I want to thank my mother who supports me before, during and after I get ACE Certified. Also, not forgetting my friend, Alex Choong. He is the one who brought me into fitness. I am so grateful to have them. But most importantly of course FiT Malaysia and its facilitators, educators and staff. I wouldn’t be here without any of these guys. Thank you again!

Thank you Junior for spending your time for this interview. FiT Malaysia wishes you all the best in your fitness career!
