Are you thinking of making a career change?

Are you considering to boost your credibility through an ACE certification?

Or maybe you are a fitness junkie who just wants to know more about fitness?

Kim, our course facilitator interviewed 3 of our former students who did the 90 hour Personal Trainer course with the hope they could share how the personal trainer course has helped them.

Cindy, from New Zealand, an expat mother living in Malaysia, waiting for ACE results

Jordan, model cum free-lance personal trainer, waiting for ACE results

Chong, avid runner & lawyer, ACE certified personal trainer doing the CSCS course.

1) What motivated you to sign up for the ACE PT course ?

Cindy : Exercise, playing sport and staying fit is an integral part of my life, I used to teach aerobics and had always wanted to be a PE teacher but for various reasons went down a different track. So, quite a few years later, living an expat lifestyle where we move frequently, and having two young boys I decided that the perfect job for me would be training people to get fit. It is a role where I can do the hours I want and no matter what country we end up living in, there are always people who need a trainer.

Jordan : I’m passionate into fitness, would like to change the others getting involve to a healthier life, better looking, and confidence. I like to see people change into a positive way. I heard alot about ACE. It’s professional. It’s a great opportunity for me to get into PROFESSIONAL personal training.

Chong : I am an endurance sports and fitness enthuasist and have been actively exercising and training, so I thought, perhaps I should know more of the exercise sciences to further enhance my sports performance in a safe and effective manner and I wanted a course that has worldwide recognition or at least well respected in the fitness industry and after some research…..I chose ACE.

2) Did you have any issue signing up for the course ( cost involved, time needed, future job opportunites, spouse objection … ) and how did you overcome it ?

Cindy : The only issue was trying to find the time to do the course, in amongst school, visitors and the other things I do here in KL. Having decided that no time is perfect, I just slotted it in and became even busier for a few months. FIT were really helpful, and patient, in getting me sorted for the course.

Jordan : So far I don’t have any issue signing up for the cost. Future job opportunites, maybe. Doing what you love to asa living. Is the best job ever.

Chong : No, since I run my own business and I have the full support from my family especially my dear wife.

 3) What was your impression on the first day of class ? ( were you inspired, scared, excited )

Cindy : I was really excited and just so happy to be getting involved in something I had wanted to do for so long. I came away from day one saying “This is me” and continued to feel that way throughout the course.

Jordan : Excited in meeting new people, getting new knowledge, and new experience.

Chong : I was definitely excited and eager to learn.

 4) What were your feelings about the course throughout the intake ?

Cindy : I found it professionally run, the instructors were great, some of the subjects were harder than others, but overall I really loved combining my own knowledge with new information and then having to apply it.

Jordan : Course was fun, informative and professional. I thought I already know alot in fitness and personal training. But ACE opened up my eyes, I’m learning even more than I ever thought I could.

Chong : Always ready to learn new stuff.

 5) What was your favourite subject, or which part of the course did you enjoy the most ?

Cindy : I truly enjoyed everything (well, maybe except when we had to do any calculations – maths was never my best subject!). I found training my client really beneficial. It was the first time that I had trained somebody and it was a great learning experience.

Jordan : Honestly, I like every subject. The outstanding one would be the Communication part. Beside’s verbal, I never realise the importance of non-verbal. Communication is everything when comes to a pt approaching, building trust, teaching, and maintaining good relationship with client. It also educates me on different people’s behaviour and personality, which is crucial when working with other people in any field.

Chong : There are so many of them….can i name a few….eg: the exercise sciences especially on nutrition, plyometrics and resistance training, especially the part on progression and regression.

6) How about the end of the course, were you happy the course came to an end ?

Cindy : Felt very sad that I wouldn’t be going to class anymore but on the other hand we have to be let loose on the world at some stage and I think we were ready. We had a lovely group of people on our course who made it both fun and interesting and I am missing not seeing them twice a week.

Jordan : I didn’t feel happy when it came to the end. I had a good time with my classmates and facilitators throughout this course. Laughter, fun, debating, sharing, role playing and learning. Just like a party, you’re having your quality time but at the end of the party. Everyone is calling for encore!

Chong : Yes and No……Yes, because I know now I know more and No, because I still wanted to learn more on sports performance hence I pursue CSCS.

7) What would say stood out the most for you in the course ?

Cindy : It gave me something more of a personal nature, rather than anything specific or tangible. Everything we did or learned just made me realise that I was finally involved in something that I should have been doing years ago. It’s now time to transfer that to benefiting lots of people out there.

Jordan : Facilitators teaching style, guidance, and class role playing

Chong : Definitely the exercise sciences

8) So do you feel that the course fee is justifiable ?

Cindy : Oooops, I can’t even remember how much it cost. Whatever it was, it was well worth it.

Jordan : It was a little pricey, but it worth the price! The ACE provide good quality teaching style. They are the pros.

Chong : Yes

9) What are you going to do once you are certified ?

Cindy : I am hoping to work mainly on getting inactive people off the sofa and out and about walking, running, climbing mountains, and going to the gym so that they can experience the benefits of being fit.

Jordan : Continue working as a PT. I want to apply what I learn to people who want to be fit, healthy, and stronger. Most importantly, to give them a positive perception of PT in Malaysia.

Chong : Now that I am certified, I would like to be part of the fitness industry, perhaps, specifically, on endurance sports.

10) Any words for people out there who are thinking of entering the fitness industry ?

Cindy : If the world of fitness, exercise, sport, etc. is something that you love, then do the course. You are bound to learn something new and the environment at FIT is friendly, professional and well worth the time and effort. Enjoy. (Oh, and make sure you read the books.)

Jordan : I know many of you want to be a PT. But there are barriers around holding you back. Maybe you’re still ignorant in fitness, you do not know where to start, or lack the confidence of being a coach. ACE is a place for you. They will guide you. Lastly, It’s not just about the paper thin cert. But a solid base for you to unleash your passion to reach the sky.

Chong : Firstly, you need to have the enthuasism and love towards fitness i.e. you got to practice it yourself, Secondly, the responsibility to help others to discover the joy of living healthy, active lives and Lastly, the most important of all, to do so in a safe and effective manner.
