The Group Fitness Instructor course aims to instill professional, standard processes and techniques so as to enable participants to teach safe and effective group fitness class to valued members of all types as well as to prepare participants for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Group Fitness Instructor certification exam.

Course Aims
The aim of the Group Fitness Instructor pre-certification programme is to instill professional, standard processes and techniques so as to enable participants to teach safe and effective group fitness class to valued members of all types as well as to prepare participants for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Group Fitness Instructor certification exam.

Topics and sequence
This 60-hour preparation course is organized as follows:
•    The professional role and responsibilities of certified fitness professionals including client confidentiality, relationship and communication with other related professions, safety precautions and legal liabilities.
•    The application of applied science foundations to fitness such as applied kinesiology, anatomy, exercise physiology and nutrition;
•    The construction of a group fitness class of basic exercise components using appropriate movements, music, and/or equipment in order to promote health and wellness to class participants;
•    The appropriate and effective teaching method in order to accommodate various learning styles and cultural differences by analyzing the skills, interests, lifestyles, and preferences of the class;
•    The interpersonal skills by interacting with participants in order to build individual rapport, relationships, and adherence;
•    The incorporation of progression in class design consistent with established standards and guidelines with variation in exercise selection, equipment, music, and approach in order to achieve fitness goals, reduce potential injury and attrition, and promote enthusiasm for physical activity;
•    Accommodate the needs of special population by recognising their limitations and making appropriate exercise adaptations to provide safe and effective classes.

Class size
Class size will be limited to 20 participants per class. A minimum of 8 participants is required to start a class.
